Middle Mtn (1857') and Peaked Mtn (1739') are in the Green Hills just east of North Conway. The hike
offers several scenic vistas from ledgey outlooks. Both summits have grassy knolls where we can enjoy
snacks and lunch. The hike is about 5.4 miles and has taken me 4 1/2 hours to complete in the past.
Call that morning by 7:00 if any questions regarding hike cancellation due to inclement
weather.
NEXT HIKE: May 20, Peaked-Middle
HIKE LEADER: Sue Murphy
CARPOOLS: Let's meet at the Puffin Stop (Mobil station at routes 16 and 109) at 8:00. Anyone who
wants to meet up north be at the Shaw's parking lot at the corner of 16 and (302?) in Conway by 9:00.
The corner of the parking lot closest to the road and Rt 16. Please let me know if you will be meeting
us at Shaw's.
Last Saturday Sue Murphy took us on a hike between rain storms, here is her report:
8 hikers suffering from a bad case of cabin fever were happy to be outdoors climbing 2 small mountains
come rain, hail, snow or sleet...They did not care! Their determination conquered the elements as not
one drop of water fell from the sky during the hike or the ice cream reward afterwards. The hike was a
gentle climb the entire way. There were two totally uneventful brook crossings and a few muddy areas
that had to be carefully side stepped. Both summits had wonderful views of the Conways and areas (?)
east. We snacked at Middle Mtn and had our lunch on peaked Mtn sitting on a ledge out of the wind.
All agreed that this was a hike well worth doing again. Not a long one as it took us about 3 1/2 hours
with plenty of time to stop in North Conway for waffle cones and time to enjoy them sitting on the
porch in the sunshine...YES! SUNSHINE! Those who didn't show up (fearing inclement weather was our
guess) missed a wonderful day!
